Description: Fibroblasts were the first adherent cell types to be successfully cultured in vitro. In mixed primary cultures fibroblast-like cells typically overgrow other adherent cell types. Fibroblast cells were frequently developed as host cells for the production of therapeutically useful viruses. Even today these cells are widely used for this purpose. Many classical media such as CMRC 1066, GMEM, Ham's F-10, L-15, and Medium 199 were developed and used to culture fibroblasts. These media all required the addition of high concentration of serum, MACGENE offers the fibroblast growth medium kit, which is composed of basal medium (Cat.: CM010) and Fibroblast Medium Supplement (Cat.: CC117). This is the most advanced medium formulation for fibroblast cell culture that we offer. Once formulated, the complete medium contains a very small amount of FBS. It is a sterile, liquid medium which contains essential and non-essential amino acids, vitamins, lipids, organic and inorganic compounds, hormones, growth factors and trace minerals. The medium is HEPES and bicarbonate buffered and has a pH of 7.3 when equilibrated in an incubator with an atmosphere of 5% CO${}^2$. The medium is formulated to provide a defined and optimally balanced nutritional environment that selectively promotes proliferation and growth of normal mammalian fibroblasts in vitro.
